Aims of the Congress 2008

The Congress ‘Global Youth in 2020: Challenges and potentials of international youth work’ in June 2008 aimed to develop perspectives for future international youth work and youth policy activities in the wider context of Europeanisation and globalisation. The Congress produced a series of hands-on recommendations for action and objectives for the international youth work activities of tomorrow.

The implementation of the agreed objectives was monitored after the Congress. The outcome will be examined at the follow-up Congress in April 2010.




Guiding questions

• What social and political changes are crucial for shaping the future international youth work?
• What requirements result from this for policy-makers and international youth work agencies and organisations?
• In what fields has international youth work already found forward-looking answers to existing challenges (good-practice models)?
• What gaps need filling?
• Considering the various levels (bilateral, European, international, intercontinental), what impacts does (youth) policy cooperation between international youth work experts have on the respective national youth policy and the respective lifeworlds of young people?
• What new approaches exist for the cooperation between actors of international youth work (as regards formats, partnerships, thematic areas) and what synergies evolve from them?
• What steps are necessary to make future international youth work sustainable?
